If you’ve been following the RPGMapshare Discord channel, you know that I’ve been working on creating new gallery software for the site. The Foo Gallery plugin was nice, but didn’t have some crucial features I needed. And there was no indication the developers would ever get around to adding them.
So, I worked with Grok AI, and originally started on a plugin to augment Foo Gallery’s capabilities. But that proved too intractable. So, we made our own gallery plugin from scratch. We emulated much of the look and feel of Foo Gallery, but focused on the features I was most concerned about.
But Grok isn’t really geared towards coding. Unless you pay for premium, you can only go in fits and starts. And pasting gobs of code really bogs down a browser pretty quickly.
So, I tried Github’s Copilot implementation, powered by ChatGPT. It was much more geared towards coding, the browser never bogged down, and the price for heavy usage was much more reasonable. Things moved along quickly. And now, here we are!
A brand new, AI-generated gallery plugin for WordPress, guided by yours truly.
We now have the features that Foo Gallery lacked, such as Site-wide gallery searches, and Latest updates (the links to both of those are at the top of the right hand menu on most pages).
Everything is fully live and ported to the new gallery.
