Welcome to RPGMapShare.com, a place to share maps and mapping objects for any type of Role-Playing Game. The maps and objects are intended for use mainly with any of the various Virtual Tabletop applications, such as Battlegrounds or Maptool, but as long as you have a computer and a way to display images, you can use them for your games. We're about sharing here, so uploading of your own maps and objects is encouraged. Please follow the directions when uploading, especially regarding usage restrictions, and we'll all be happy. We'd also like to see you in the Forums, so stop by and say hi, tell us what types of games you play, how you use the images you've obtained here, etc. Enjoy! |
Usage field added
Submitted by Steel Rat on Sun, 06/25/2006 - 8:50am.
I added a custom field for Gallery Items, called Usage. The field has two pre-set values: Personal Only, and Personal and Commercial. The Usage field is under the Custom Fields tab when editing your gallery item.
Those who have already uploaded images will need to go in and change the value to whichever is appropriate. If no value is selected, Personal and Commercial will be assumed.
If you've uploaded a lot of items I can change the Usage values in the database, just let me know what they should be.

I am confused with this..If
Submitted by Dorpond on Sun, 06/25/2006 - 3:32pm.I am confused with this..
If we state personal only, does that mean we are telling the community that we won't allow them to use it in production without permission from us first; whereas if we state Personal and Commercial, we are telling them they can use the map even to sell or use in a D20 product if they wish?
I haven't uploaded anything since activation but you may want a way to force this question when uploading or else people will just not fill it in and it could be inaccurate data. (if you think this is important enough)
Your assumption is

I'm not going to attempt to force it because it's only really of importance to the copyright owner. If they are interested enough then they will make sure the flag is set, or at least put it prominently into the description. The field isn't an enforcement method anyway, just a way of easily signifying and making searching more consistent.
Besides, I would have to do some hacking of code to make the field mandatory and on the upload forms.

I'm glad this field was
Submitted by heruca on Mon, 06/26/2006 - 10:55am.I'm glad this field was added, because it's important information. I guess those without the field filled in should be considered "Personal Use Only".
Would it be possible to also organize or tag the maps as being Campaign/Region/Area/Battlemap scale? Or is this already possible somehow?

Battlegrounds: RPG Edition is new virtual tabletop software for both Macs and Windows PCs that allows you to play any RPG online or offline. It's very easy to use and has useful features like Fog of War.

Other categorizations.
Submitted by Steel Rat on Mon, 06/26/2006 - 11:35am.Could certainly add new categories. But instead of duplicating albums under all the top-level albums adding custom fields to further classify would be good. Although this is easily achieved as well using keywords too.
