Adding descriptions/comments to images we upload.

So I found how to add a comment to the map I uploaded but on the upload page it talked about an image description.

Is there one and how does the owner/uploader access/change it?

If you're the owner of an image you'll have options under the Gallery Navigation on the left side when you're viewing the image. The option you're looking for is Edit Photo. You can then change any part of the file description (title, keywords, description, etc).

If you still have trouble (It's possible I didn't get all the album permissions right) let me know which album the item is in.

Nope. No Edit photo. It´s the cemetery image in the fantasy maps album.

Well Crapola.

There's a permission at the album level to Edit Item, but I can only give it to a group or an individual, and it's sure not practical to have to give all individuals edit access to all their images.

I'll need to look into it further. For now, do you want me to put in a description for you?

Ok, finally got this straightened out.

If you upload an item, you're the Owner of the item, and can edit all of the description fields and custom fields.

So, I'm turning off edit access for all registered users for any item.

Originally I felt this would be a good community thing, like a wiki, but the lack of logging and tracking of changes makes this impractical, and a security risk. If the gallery setup were more wiki-like, then it wouldn't have been a problem.

Decided to reply here instead of in the comments of the test image.

I manually added the edit and delete options for your account for your images. However, going forward, the core edit options will be added automatically any time you upload something.

I tested with my Rusty Mouse test account and it worked as expected.

Can anyone else confirm whether they can or cannot edit their own items?

Steel,

I still don't have any option to edit my maps.. Hmmm..
I have to split for now - I'll test it out later and upload a new image perhaps.
Take care!

Confirmed that I can edit my own items.

It's working for Phergus, and my test account. Can you take a screenshot of your screen when viewing one of your own gallery items Dorpond, and attach it to your reply?

Do you still want me to take that snapshot Steel? I am getting confused on what message on here is current. Is it me or are these messages confusing as all heck to keep track of?

I wonder why they can't do it like a regular board? (posting messages that is)

Actually, they all work now so it isn't needed - I can now edit :)

Odd that you couldn't before, but as long as you can now Wink

I changed the way comments are displayed, from threaded, most recent first, to flat, oldest first. So now you're seeing them in the order they were posted. It was confusing me too, lol.
